trinox
Hey everyone, have my first tank set up and is 'mid cycle' now. I have been advised that i now need to get some plants in there. I am after some advice on low tech planting and lighting. My tank is all glass and is L76cm x H47 x W36 = roughly 130L . Can someone please recommend Plants/Lights and or what else i need to plan on getting. Thanks Everyone
Sheepsnana
I like swords, root based, they're easy to grow, and multiply by new plants growing off a stem. Indian fern is awesome as it can grow rooted in substrate or floating (to provide a bit of shade). Red plants look cool but require a lot of light. Blanket plants look good but will require a decent substrate to properly take off.
Joe
Ludwigia arcuata and Rotala rotundifolia can be grown under lower lighting levels and still show lovely warm colours. Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Red' has lovely red leaves and is also suitable for low light.
alanmin4304
L. arcuata needs pretty good light.
Joe
I have it under low light and it is doing pretty well :dunno:
alanmin4304
It is frequently grown and sold emersed and needs a lot of light to convert. I could never get it to convert in my setup. Good luck if you can--it is a nice plant.
Joe
Yes it has converted and did so extremely quickly. My tank is 90x38x38cm and I have just two 30w T8's and I usually just have one on at a time for short periods to keep the algae at bay.
