Zev
No, what he is saying is that it is only as strong as one of the single sheets of glass, not the sum of the two bits plus the laminate.
alanmin4304
Each piece is about 6mm plus plastic laminate and if one breaks so will the other. They tend to act independently rather than like laminated timber.
fishy-fish
Bugger. I have some 6mm laminate (3mm + 3mm) which I was going to have professionally cut for a couple 1000x400x400 tanks. I guess I'm going to have to rethink that idea! Glad I read this thread. Thanks for the heads up!
Sheepsnana
It's great at stopping nails being fired from a nail gun, not so much for equal pressure on the whole surface

alanmin4304
I made a tank years ago in a cabinet to go in a public place and used 10 mm laminated glass but not toughened for the front so I cut it to size. The restauranteur that wanted it went broke before he opened so I ended up with it. The cabinet did not survive the February shake but the tank is still OK.It would be over 30 years old now. Tank was about 1200x450x450 but had full euro bracing top and bottom. Most places that use laminated glass would require toughened as well these days. What would be the max size tank using 6mm laminate (3+3)?
alanmin4304
Work it out for 3mm on the calculator.
