nikki_stikki
Hi there, I've tried reading through the different posts but am still soo confused. I'm trying to get the lighting in my tank to look like it has a bit of a bluey tinge. My tank originally came with an AquaOne T8 40W Sunlight tube, but this is too bright and my fish hide. I then went to the pet shop and they told me to get the same thing, but in Marine Blue. Of course, this was the wrong tube to buy so I took it back and said I'd keep trying with the sunlight tube. I've just been to a different pet shop and they told me to buy an Arcadia Original Tropical Lamp. I've just tried it out and it's very red! The fish I have are: Electric Yellows Brichardi and Blue Zebras Would appreciate any suggestions Oh and I'm not worried about growing plants, I just have fake ones. Thanks! Zayne
is this kinda what you are after? http://www.thefishtank.co.nz/webapps/p/83799/179802/467855
nikki_stikki
Thanks for that! I think that looks pretty good, as I said, I don't really understand all the numbers haha. So from reading that do you understand it to mean it would give a nice blue tinge, not too bright or too dark, and would bring out the colours of the fish mentioned? Sorry to be a pain! Li@m
The colour of light is measured in Kelvin (K). 6500K is a sunlight bulb 14000k is a redish colour and 18000+ is a blue colour. I don't know how blue this bulb would be tho, i suspect it would be quite blue and evrything would have a blue tinge to it. HTH
Zayne
it would be quite blue so i would suggest having a blue and white bulb on
Li@m
it would be quite blue so i would suggest having a blue and white bulb on +
nikki_stikki
OK so it wouldn't be as deep and dark as a Marine Blue tube? Also, my lighthood only has room for one tube so if I wasn't able to have a white one with it, would it be OK?
Zayne
i would think just blue would be too dark
nikki_stikki
Ooh OK thanks for that. So really I can't do much without a double lighthood
beachy
Hagen Power glo bring out the colours of africans nicely, not as white/yellow looking as daylight, also i have seen cheaper tropical tubes that look like they would be around the same colour. ryanjury
You could always keep your existing light and add a small blue light you should be able to source one cheaply off trademe.. Yellows/brichardi/blue zebras should be relatively confident fish in all lighting so maybe their tank is in the wrong place or they just need to get used to it?
