  1. Hi all, A couple of weeks ago I put one of my demasoni into a plastic breeder/quarantine box (in the main tank) as I noticed she had been beaten up and had not much tail left. I had been feeding her, she'd been eating a bit but not heaps, so I didn't suspect anything. Anyway her tail was healing nicely, and two days ago I fed all the fish and notice about 10 babies sitting on the bottom of the breeder! I had no idea what to do but as I was 5 minutes from leaving for work I decided to leave it til I got home. Anyway, just before I leave I check on them again and they've all disappeared, but I noticed her mouth has the bulge so I figured she's taken them back in. Get home from work and they're still in her mouth. This morning when I feed my fish she's spit them again! But of course it's just as I'm heading out the door again. 5 minutes later she's taken them back in! I've had the lights off in the tank to hopefully not stress her out. What I'm wondering is, is it better for me to keep her in the breeder box with the fry, or release her into the main tank? I'm scared that she'll keep being attacked, as one or two of the dems in the tank have been trying to hassle her through the breeder, and I'm unsure if she's back to proper condition (in regards to her tail and not eating properly). I'd like to keep as many fry as possible, would she eat them if I keep her in the breeder with them? Thanks heaps
  2. Cool, thanks heaps Yeah, I've researched that and looked on YouTube, it sounds a bit too hard, I'd be too scared I'd hurt her I think I might just put her into her own tank and see how she does in there.. :-?
  3. Hey, thanks! Well at this stage they've been good, but maybe they're just not old enough yet I just hope my Brichardi don't breed coz that's apparently when you get problems haha
  4. Hi, first things first, I know that it's not actually pregnant, I just forgot what the actual word is  She's got a very obviously "swollen" mouth and I haven't seen her eat in a while. I can't tell if the eggs have hatched or not. I was just wondering whether to leave her in the tank or put her in one of those clear plastic floating breeder boxes? I don't wanna stress her out by trying to catch her. I read that they will only spit the babies if they feel they'll be safe. There is a fair bit of coral in my tank so the babies would hopefully be able to hide in there, however I would of course feel safer if they were in their own box so other fish couldn't eat them. I have 6 other electric yellows, brichardi, and demasoni in the tank also. Also, if I were to put her into the breeder box, when would I need to take her out of there and put her back into the main tank? Thanks in advance for any help
  5. Ooh OK thanks for that. So really I can't do much without a double lighthood
  6. OK so it wouldn't be as deep and dark as a Marine Blue tube? Also, my lighthood only has room for one tube so if I wasn't able to have a white one with it, would it be OK?
  7. Thanks for that! I think that looks pretty good, as I said, I don't really understand all the numbers haha. So from reading that do you understand it to mean it would give a nice blue tinge, not too bright or too dark, and would bring out the colours of the fish mentioned? Sorry to be a pain!
  8. Hi there, I've tried reading through the different posts but am still soo confused. I'm trying to get the lighting in my tank to look like it has a bit of a bluey tinge. My tank originally came with an AquaOne T8 40W Sunlight tube, but this is too bright and my fish hide. I then went to the pet shop and they told me to get the same thing, but in Marine Blue. Of course, this was the wrong tube to buy so I took it back and said I'd keep trying with the sunlight tube. I've just been to a different pet shop and they told me to buy an Arcadia Original Tropical Lamp. I've just tried it out and it's very red! The fish I have are: Electric Yellows Brichardi and Blue Zebras Would appreciate any suggestions Oh and I'm not worried about growing plants, I just have fake ones. Thanks!
  9. Hi I've been researching these two fish and am keen on either one of them (guessing I can't have both??) Anyone know if/where you can buy them in NZ? I'm in Tauranga so would either have to be local, relatively close to pick up, or able to be shipped. Thanks in advance
