Having issues with Freeview can anyone help?

Hi all, is there anyone out there who knows anything about stupid freeview decoders please?

Ours has been fine-ish and sometimes it wont work when its very sunny or hot, apparently its something called sun fade, much like sky's rain fade i presume.

anyway, this was happening the other day and someone started playing with the menu etc and now its really stuffed.

we tried re-installing it and that didnt work as it had signal strength but not quailty, so it wasnt working, so we didnt have any channels.

i managed to 'fix' it yesterday, but only to have more problems. now when we turn it on its fine, the as soon as the display banner across the bottom goes (after 5-7seconds) it freezes and throws a wobbly, turns off, comes on, works, then starts that stupid process over again.....

ive searched and searched the net for ideas but i have come up with nothing.

has anyone else had the same problems? does anyone have ANY idea what we can do? please help! i can cope without tv but someone else cant lol!

Rain fade is just the name given by sky for an interupted signal.

This can be caused by a multitude of reasons but extremely dense cloud or rain that blocks the signal is common, Hense the name "Rain Fade"

The problem may be caused by many things but most likely a faulty LNB( the piece on end of dish)

Most of the dishes people have on their roofs have been there for years and like most things these day they are made to a price and dont go the distance.

What brand decoder are you using? ( I sell them so am a familiar with the basics of them)

thanks supasi, i rang Hills as thats the brand of decoder we have.

we tried some things over the phone and have found out that yes it is a faulty LNB. thats just fantastic.... why do bills and things you need to fix come at a time when you dont have money to spare on 'not 100% necessary things'? argh!!!

pay for a new dish/LNB - $200 - $450

or

get sky and get roped into a term?? hmmmm :dunno:

hmm that i do! not such a bad idea, although, we are renting this house but are in the process of buying one, so in about 5 weeks we are out of here so why should we fix it at our cost!

i know why we should fix it, cos if we dont have tv my bf will go mad!!! i can live without tv, he just goes nuts, almost like a cat on catnip lol :nilly: :sml1:
