oO SKIPPY Oo
i was cleaning out the pond on the weekend and found a pink goldfish that is really really fat - like its bulging out the sides - i caught it and looked a bit closer and its missing quite a few scales on the side and underneath. the bulge is not uniform ie its bigger on one side that the other. is it full of eggs? or do you think its something else? i will try to take a couple of pics tonight so you can see what i mean
Caryl
Probably full of eggs. They do bulge unevenly.
oO SKIPPY Oo
If it is a female should I do anything about her or just leave her be? I was surprised to see the scales missing and now that I think about it she was very slow swimming about like she was very lethargic or something and kind of listing to one side when swimming near the current from the pump
oO SKIPPY Oo
here is the fish in question - i think the coloring is normal but see how far apart the scales are, and in places there is nothing but skin

Caryl
I would say someone has already had a go at her if she is missing scales. They can sometimes be killed. Is there lots of plants in the pond so she can hide? The scales bulge because she is so fat.

oO SKIPPY Oo
I think the tails have had a little bit chomped out of them and I have lost one fish but otherwise they are all pretty good together
Squirt
Turtles  I got 10 plants from HFF last weekend, planted them all and next morning... Half of them floating, not eating just ripped out. I was quite surprised he didn't eat them all  on a different forum they have Lilly pads, water lettuce and oxygen weed. Just as a suggestion. Also my grandparents have a pond with goldfish and oxygen weed and they constantly have babies.
calculator
in the plants..im quite surprised the turtles havnt eat the goldfish.... If the turtles are well feed, the pond is big enough and they are not that aggressively natured they can live quite happily with gold fish with very few gold fish fatalities. Suphew gave me a bullrush which ive got in a bucket so im going to try that next and see how they get on
alanmin4304
You can use the fine willow roots that grow in a river from willow trees on the banks or you can make up mops from synthetic wool like the killie fish enthusiasts use. oO SKIPPY Oo
Thanks for the ideas, im going to try more plants first - I might try to find a source of oxygen weed that is easy to get in big amounts ie a stream since the turtles like to graze on it.
