Caryl
Depends on how you set it up. Can we have a few details please? A tank needs to run a few days to check the equipment is all working correctly and the heater has settled to the correct temperature. How you then add the fish depends on whether you plan a fishless or fish in cycle.
paige.xo
Have you read about the nitrogen cycle? Once you understand this fish keeping becomes a lot easier! http://fishkeepers.co.nz/index.php/setting_up_a_tank/ To answer your question, as soon as the ammonia and nitrite levels have reached zero and your tank is cycled. Although, don't add all your fish at once, as this may cause an ammonia spike that will hurt/kill your fish. You can cycle your tank with fish, but I prefer not to do that... mike 65
hi have a AR850 TANK, WITH A AQUQ 1000 external canister filter
ryanjury
Provided your tank is upto temp and everything is running well you can add a few smaller fish, your tank holds 165L so any ammonia would be well disapated and build up slowly. Providing you don't fill the tank completely with fish straight away, don't overfeed and keep a close eye on things it should be fine. You can also add a bit of cycled media from a petshop or a local fish keeper for a bit of extra insurance. What is your intended stock list? ryanjury
hi noens and discus Don't bother with the neons, generally they just drop dead for no apparent reason.. And they will do so even more at the higher temps you keep discus at, just spend a bit more and get some cardinals at least they will live for a reasonable length of time and cope better at higher temps. I wouldn't attempt to cycle a tank with either of them though.. Where do you live?
