BrendanNSANZ
Thinking about making a DIY Canister Filter. Would this be appropriate? http://www.brewyourownliquor.co.nz/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/Brew_Barrel_4b9ec4545ee24.jpg What power pump for a 400L tank, any recommendations on brand? Joshlikesfish
I suggest just buying a sunsun external if you want something cheap and effective
ryanjury
How big is it? It would probably be ok.. If you want a cheap canister filter then aqua one CF1200s are great and only $132 at hollywoods atm..

And it certainly would be a lot more hassle.

Snowman
I agree with the buy one or two theory, buying media to go inside that brewing barrel would cost a fortune. I would suggest 2 x Eheim 2217 but the aqua ones are a lot cheaper.
ally07
Theoretically, converting a water drum like that into a canister would be awesome if your tank/ bioload were both huge. Sure, it would cost more, but imagine the media you can stuff inside! Probably very, very overkill for a 400L though.
