henward
ok, in case the subject doesn't make sense. when you buy them new, they are pre calibrated, then when you eventually use them, in time i find that you gotta move the dial higher and higher to compensate? who experiences this? waterlogged
I have, I think may be the opposite though. I usually just have to play it by the thermometer and see how it goes. My 300W that is in my 445L is on 60% of the time and is set at 24C when the tank reads around 26-27C. I also have a 300Wblue planet which is on less Though in saying that both my Jager heaters (other a 150W) are about 5-6 years old
Sophia
They aren't properly calibrated, the instructions say you have to do it yourself once it's in the tank. I think mine is set a couple of degrees higher than the thermometer reads usually.

I think mine is set a couple of degrees higher than the thermometer reads usually. It's not a lack of having calibrated it. It's the setting drifting over time. Sure you can recalibrate it occasionally, but that's still adjusting it. I've found mine seem to stay roughly the same until right towards the end when they die. Not really surprising, you get little fatigue fractures in the bimetallic strip, maybe corrosion etc throwing it off a little over time. Sophia
Sorry, that was an unelaborated answer I made while quickly snooping on the board at work  You're right anyway but the instructions I've got do say to 'calibrate it' when you first use it by letting it settle in the tank with power off for an hour or something, then set it to where you want it using the red arrow, then check later and see if the thermometer matches, and if not then move the top dial around.
