reptilez
can you use a pond filter on a large 650L fishtank? something like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Pumps-filters/auction-392160998.htm ? thanks Matthew
ryanjury
Yeah you could but at the price of the filter + extra for the pump (and you would probably want a half descent one) you are probably better off buying a big aqua one or second hand fx5.. Fruju
No. I have asked about it before. You would need the filter to be at or above the level of the tank. Installing it, maintaining it etc is just way too much hassle. FX5 does the job even better.
Ira
I don't see any obvious reasons why not. It says it's pressurised so it shouldn't leak and static head height won't be an issue, just like any normal cannister filter. You'll just need to add maybe $150 for a good pump onto it. But then you're close to the cost of a good cannister anyway.
David R
As Ira said, by the time you buy a suitable pump and all the plumbing you may as well just buy a canister filter. One thing to consider with pond filters is that ponds are [usually] a lot lighter stocked than aquariums, so a pond filter recommended for a 2000L would not be enough to filter a 2000L aquarium.
