MalcolmX
i wanted to make a tank out of 10mm glass with these dimentions: 1500mm L x 800mm W x 600mm H thats 720 liters or 185 gallons. i will probably put bracing in it (those bits of glass that span the width of the tank). also does anyone have an idea of the value of that much glass. its going to be my new jars eventual home. cheers malcolm
the-obstacle
That's practically my tank with a bit more depth. Mine is 10mm which is fine for 600mm high. Any higher and you'd want to move to 12mm. There's a safety factor calculator somewhere here.
GZ_Loach
$900 maybe less

MalcolmX
thancks guys thats what i wanted to hear ive read the article on glass thickness calculating, but found it pretty heavy reading and it seems to say use 25mm glass for a tank alot larger, hate to think how much that would cost! (also the glass merchants here in dunnos laugh and look puzzled when i say 12mm glass, some will even have to order 10mm glass in  )
David R
I have 1800x750x600 in 10mm, provided you have a good level stand it should be fine. I'd probably go for a 12mm base if you're going to pile it full of rocks though.
MalcolmX
yea ill probably put a protective plastic sheet or something down on the bottom to prevent scratches etc.
alanmin4304
I would use european bracing at the top and the bottom (to double the bonding area where the pressure is greatest).
MalcolmX
and what is european bracing alan?
alanmin4304
It is where you add 40 mm wide strips around the top and bottom (on edge)
