Breeding zebra/leopard danios

Recommended Posts

I think I will start to breed zebra danios before I start to breed my neons.

I have the basics set in stone. Air pump sponge filter 20L tank 4 danios.

Have started to feed them up on bbs and microworms

I don't have any mesh or marbles so I was thinking could I use java moss?

I have a big clump in my 200l BUT it is full of planaria.

Would planaria eat danio eggs?

How do I clean the moss before adding it?

I've read that leopard and zebra danios can breed together. Can anyone back this up? Yes I would've gottenall zebra danios but the thick LFS attendant didn't know the difference between the two

Yeah I'll probally get 2 more danios tomorrow so my breeding is more successful.

Any help or any personal experience is much appreciated.

Zebra and leopard danios can cross and they produce nice looking offspring but I think they are infertile. They will breed on moss but you will do better if you use mesh as one pair can be spawning while others come behind eating the eggs. You will also do better if you have some of each sex.

You cut it so it is about 10 mm bigger than the tank in each direction then you fold the edges to form a shallow tray that will just fit neatly into the tank and then you place it in upsidedown and let it sink. You should now have a false bottom of netting that will keep the fish from eating the eggs after spawning.
