Have you tested your PH lately? Limestone dissolves and raises the PH.
alanmin4304
The water needs to be acid otherwise it is pretty well insoluble.
fishgirl53
My PH is 8 which I want for cichlids but would love to have crystal clear water what if I were to take out the lime stone and put in some coral rock or does that leech as well thank you
GZ_Loach
If you want high ph without the cloudiness you can get coral sand substrate or coral rock, neither of them make the water cloudy
ryanjury
I have limestone in my African tanks and have crystal clear water.. It is possible you have sandstone which will dissolve or have insufficient filtration or other issues..
GZ_Loach
Some limestone rock is quite weather worn and is pretty crumbly, that would explaing the cloudy water (rocks slowly breaking apart)
fishgirl53
Thank you guys I got my limestone from a lime works it is beautiful rock pure white is not crumbly I will look at putting in coral rock and taking out the limestone and replaceing it with something else if it dosen't clear
ryanjury
If your limestone isn't crumby then chances are it isn't causing the issue.. How old is the tank? What filtration/stocking level are you running? What are you feeding? How long has it been cloudy for?
fishgirl53
Hi the tank has been up and running for around 3 months filtration is an Eheim 2329 I did make the mistake of putting in filter pads and taking them out every week to clean them but now I have only Ehfisubstrat and a green wiry sort of pad made for it at the top then the green lattice on top of that I have 21 fish only half grown in a 450ltr tank I have cut down on the feeding cichlid food and some food that I have cooked up which is shrimps peas carrots spirlina garlic, flake food, tropical tucker, mysis they get a bit of a variety feeding once a day but now missing out the odd day my ammonia and nitrites are good ph is 7.8 to 8 dkh is 3to4 its been cloudy for most of the time looked like it was coming right then went cloudy again I am now going to leave it alone apart for once a week water changes and checking ph etc I had washed the Ehfisubstrat and maybe be I shouldn't have cheers for your reply
