Insect Direct
Any recommendations for moonlighting? Blue leds strips run from a dc adapter? or has anyone else seen something suitable on the market. What about Ultraviolet lights? Bunnings had a UV compact fluro. Is for whistling tree frogs. Zayne
everytime i brought strips like this, they never lasted long a few leds would go out after a month and then they would slowly lose intensity and more leds. i used to use a 15w t8 moonlight it was a special reptile moonlight bulb was about 15 bucks worked well but a bit too bright did you attach them to something? did you keep moving them around? i have put some in one of my lights and have had no problems at all been there for months
Nymox
I just used a cheap outdoor solar garden light to provide moonlight to my 2.4m, gave off enough blue light to keep the tank just lit enough to stop the ornates having so much success at night hunting. And cost next to nothing. I just picked up one of the cheap one from the warehouse, opened it up extended the wires from the solar panel and battery pack and mounted the led into the hood. Only lasted about 3 months before it died but for about $7 I couldn't complain.

Insect Direct
they were on the dse website within the last year or so. guy in shop couldnt find anything similar the other day. i use to use a bug zapper hung next to the tank as a moonlight. led strips would be much more direct though and is what i want. bunnings had led christmas lights similar to what is in the trademe link above. they didnt have any blue left though. Ira
This sounds like a job for jaycar! 2X300mm cold cathode fluorescents. Comes in white, blue or UV, comes with switch and inverter.
Insect Direct
what does the inverter do? would i still need a power adapter to run them?
spoon
its so u can run them off 12vdc
Ira
what does the inverter do? It converts the 12v DC you supply the unit with to 100 something volt AC. would i still need a power adapter to run them? You'd need some sort of 12v power supply, yes.
