blueyes
Yes or no? I can't decide....... :dunno: Primarily setting it up for my Clown Loaches...... still undecided on eventual tank mates......
David R
Silica sand will be fine, they prefer fine substrates. Tank will need to be upgraded in a few years though...
blueyes
Cool, thanks David.... I kinda like the idea of the white against the dark background too and maybe the lighter sunstrate will enhance the clowns colours too? What a shame about having to upgrade the tank in a few years though hehe...... :happy1:
phoenix44
Darker substrate will enhance their colours not lighter.
hovmoller
Darker substrate will enhance their colours not lighter. +1 Also white sand will go green/brown very quickly if you don't have any "snifflers" around to constantly turn it over.. not sure if Clown Loaches do that? David R
Darker substrate will enhance their colours not lighter. TBH having kept clowns on everything from brightwater and charcoal grey grit to white sand and bare bottom [white poly] I don't think it makes much of a difference with clowns. Hovmoller I take it you're back, want to come get that book some time? Its starting to look at home on my book shelf so feel free to leave it here if you want! jim r
I find the silica sand gets dirty very quickly and I have to turn it over at regular intervals, but it looks fabulous afterwards. I also notice the fish in that tank have paler colours.
Phantom
I have silica sand in one of my tanks and I think it's great. I have a team of cories though that are constantly turning it over. Never need to clean it.
Fruju
I agree with David, + from looking at henwards loach tank, white sand does not wash their colour out, makes them seem brighter though.
