tracytrout Posted February 24, 2011 Report Share Posted February 24, 2011 I'm about to set up my first African Tank so visited the local Garden/Landscape places in search of sand, gravel and rocks and now want to make sure the following types of sand are safe to use in a fish tank: Mortar Sand Dune Sand Plaster Sand Paving Sand Lime Sand I was advised by the people who served me that they were completly safe but just making sure (better to be safe than sorry) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

P44 & Ryanjury - With regards the Wanganui Sand....are any of the sands I mentioned in my posting similar to it as getting the amount of sand I want from Wanganui to Lower Hutt when I don't have a car would be quite a roadtrip for those involved. Ymir Posted February 25, 2011 Report Share Posted February 25, 2011 I have some calcite sand/gravel spare if you want some it's a form of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). There is about 1/4 to 1/2 a green recycle bins worth. Happily trade for any Glossostigma elatinoides, Hygrophila salicifolia, Myriophyllum, tiger lotus. Which I could pick up in 4-5 months time.
