Sophia
The ones that look like slugs - from the side they look like commas and they wriggle like angry mosquito larva. They are squishy like a slug too. They keep appearing in one of my mozzie buckets. Am not sure if I brought them as eggs from the trough or if someone is laying their offspring in the bucket. Couldn't find a picture on the Landcare site where they have many bug and larvae photos.
livingart
they are the next stage in a mosquito's life mozzie puppies or pupa to be correct this is the time the mosquito turns into an adult It takes about two days before the adult is fully developed and the pupal skin splits and the mosquito emerges to suck blood

Ira
 ohhh I should have known that's good then, I have caught them all before they emerge to bite me! But if they bite you then they lay more eggs which hatch into more mosquito larvae to feed the fish.
