Size tank for sump

Recommended Posts

I had a 3ft on my 450 litre (came with the tank). Got rid of it because I didn't understand the workings of it, was new to this site, didn't know the correct questions to ask.

Do I regret ditching the sump for a filter - ABSOLUTELY.

Pros

Much better filtration

Tidier tank (heaters kept in sump)

Less maintenance and easier to do

Cons

Can leak (mine did because it wasn't set up properly)

Can flood flooring (mine did because it wasn't set up properly)

Some people say noise (imo only because its not set up properly)

Would I get one again - If I could but hubby would really be anti as the FX5 wasn't cheap!

Quite a lot of knowledgeable people on this site run sumps, see if anyone lives near you and ask if you can have a look. Ask heaps of questions on here and see if you can get pictures of set ups.

Good luck :D

there is no limit on sump

sump enables yout o incrase water volume with out increasing tank dimensions:D

youc an have a sump thats same litres as your main tank, that effectively doubles your tank capacity (bar space of course for alrge fish)

i wouldsuggest a 100 litres to 150 litres under the tank would be awesome.

tower set up - and a good return pump

watchout for the over flow of your tank make sure it can handle the turnover you are putting on it,.

As big as you can practically fit under the tank.
