firefish
I'm considering using my 60x40x40cm tank for natives (bullies and koura at the least). But is the tank too small for them?
blueether
I would think it would be ok for bullies, might be a bit small for bullies and koura together
firefish
Thats a pity. I really like both koura and bullies. could I put fresh water shrimp with the bullies? How many bullies would be appropriate?
Insect Direct
ive got a similar size tank with 3upland bullies, took the little koura out so fish can feel more secure and that tank alone is probably too small for koura, especially when bigger. added 3 shrimp instead ,so far all good just need to keep an eye on temps, it can go up quick with small tanks, and keep water clean as possible. im wondering if my bullies may outgrow that tank actually. may just end up a shrimp tank. firefish
I've been doing air temp tests on my room (as the tank is tropical atm). Haven't done one at the hottest part of the day, but its not very warm in my room... Which is very useful for a FW native set up
Insect Direct
mines in the coolest room, has been upto 25C, generally sits around 20C though. frozen bottles drop temps quick in the small tank if need be, im trying not to bother though
Stella
Yeah, I agree with what ^they said (yay, people are learning! My book is doing me out of a job :happy2: ) I have had various species in 60x30x30 tanks and generally found they are a bit small, yours is a bit bigger which is helpful, but still small. The most successful setup I had was four Cran's bullies (two male, two female). It was on my desk and they were so wonderful to watch - bullies are such active little guys. They were around 5cm body-length, which I think is an ok size for the tank, but if you get them smaller you will have longer to grow them out before you need to upgrade. There is the risk of getting a really stroppy male who makes life dificult for everyone, but I guess that risk exists in every tank. Alternatively, a koura on its own makes an entertaining pet. Could also include shrimp, although expect them to slowly get turned into lunch.
