Fruju
I would go brackish if we could get the freshwater/brackish moray eel and a couple of the big gobies, your setup looks good . This is just a suggestion but how about putting in some nice light sand (not white silica) and a few small stalks of mangroves - kept trimmed, and some thin twisted roots - would look more estuarine like that. Fruju
Get the mangrove shoots from an estuary I would think, not stocked in stores if thats what you meant.

waterlogged
i remember in school being told that the mangroves grow almost like a pest so wouldn't think their would be anly thing wrong with taking them

the-obstacle
Aren't there some in the estuary by paraparaumu - on the road that goes over the hill to the hutt? not far from the roundabout off highway 1 before you start going up. I'm sure there was some there when my cousin was windsurfing in there... it's been a long time since i was there though.
phoenix44
yeah. paremata road has a lot. Do not remove them though. I recall mangroves being protected. They are VITAL to the ecosystem. plus a mangrove on paremata road was the perfect cushion for my car when i landed on it.
Mcculloch
Archer fish are the best having them spit mealworms out of your hand when I was younger was fun.
Brackishtank lover
Thanks the-obstacle will try to get there but as 44 said you might not be able to take them I'll find out
Fruju
You wouldnt exactly need to take a lot, a couple of SMALL stems does not affect the ecosystem, and they will grow in your tank fine I would imagine.
the-obstacle
I seem to remember planting the seed pods while at school. But a cutting or 3 off fairly small size will definitely grow out. Do check the legality of it though. I remember a group of people getting in a lot of trouble for 'thinning out' the mangroves in a coromandel harbour because they were causing boating issues.
