Caryl
http://www.bio-elite.com/waterbridge.htm Check this site out. He has a water bridge between his tanks - different!
Ira
I'd actually thought of something kind of similar to that. But, instead of a bridge more of a...Ummm...Skyscraper. Thought it would be interesting to have a pond with a tall cylinder coming up from the surface of the water. That way the fish could swim in and up above the surface of the pond. Pegasus
There was a system like this in the early '60s that was used mainly for goldfish and consisted of a large flat looking glass bowl with a glass tunnel going about a foot above the surface. The fish could swim through the glass tunnel and be seen throughout the whole trip from one side to the other.
Warren
I use a system similar to this to link lots of tanks together in my fishroom. I'm not using clear pipe however as I'm only interested in moving the water between tanks. On the 2 display tanks in the lounge however... Its a great idea and would be relatively cheap to make! Pegasus
The one I remember looked like a big whicker basket, but made of glass, and the handle was about 75mm diam. the "basket" shape was open, but the bridge ends were submersed at either side to allow the fish to swim through. Looked like magic in those days

Pegasus
For anyone interested in this concept there are companies that will form clear thin wall acrylic or perspex tubing in various bores (for a price), but one thing that always concerned me was the fact that within the "tunnel" there was no surface air, so if a fish became confused as to direction would it suffer? Looking back, I think the "bridge or tunnel" was a seperate item that must have been "capped" at either end while full of water and then placed into position and the "caps" removed. This seems the only logical way they would have been able to completely fill the tunnel, as the top of the tunnel was a fair way (perhaps 300mm) above the main container. peety
Just saw this thread... mad idea, but really appealing. You could imagine something like a mouse maze going on.... An easy way to fill the containers is to remove the air.... just attach one end of an air hose to the bottom of say a glass and the other end is above the water level. When you place the upturned glass in the water the air escapes... then remove hose.
