Started myself a native fresh water tank, only have a few bits and pieces so far. I went fishing though and got myself 2 little bullies and a few shrimp.

Could someone please I.D. these bullies for me.

Black shrimp, or very dark blue.

Also any ideas as to what I should add to the tank, keeping it below 18'c quite easily, but we have not hit the height of summer yet.

awww they are wee ones! :)

Both look like redfin females to me. Note the diagonal face stripes. (only the males have red fins)

If you intend to add other bullies make sure they are of a similar size, otherwise little ones get 'bullied'. And don't have more males than females, for similar reasons (not that they pair or anything, but the boys beat each other up).

With your girls that size I would avoid getting a cray, otherwise they will become lunch.

Temperature stuff depends a lot on the volume of the tank, and the water-surface:volume ratio. A Large volume fluctuates less, and a large water surface area makes using fans for evaporative cooling more effective.

Keep an eye on the girls over the next few weeks for whitespot, and quarantine any later captures for 3-4 weeks before putting them in the tank.

Interesting shrimp - very dark! I wonder if it will change over time or retain that?

Thanks Stella! I can do my research on them now. No plans for crays other then on my dinner plate maybe once this year.

No signs of white spot yet touch wood (they should really make wooden keys) but I will reserve a fish bin/quarantine zone for any new comers.

I hope she keeps the colour, there were some very dark blue ones too, but they have lost most of their colour.

where'd you get ur bullies from?

Local stream, swishing nets through masses of oxygen weed can be quite rewarding at times.
