the-obstacle
arse. That explains why they fight all the time. Anybody want a male cockatoo?
Sunbird73
OK - take 2  Have just picked up another female, feeling positive about this one It has definite black on its pectoral fins, definite black first 2 or so rays of the dorsal fin. The dorsal fin rays are all same size (tho they do extend a tiny bit at the caudal end). The tail fin is flat rather than pointed at the end, and doesn't have the patterning at all on it. However it is a bit smaller than the other ones I have so could possibly just be younger? Will try to get a pic up for the experts later this afternoon fingers crossed! Sunbird73
Well, DH rang HFF mt roskill on the weekend and they had no cockatoo cichlids at all, so was vy surprised to find two tanks full when I went there today. Perhaps they only just got them in? Very lucky that I went as well, it was a totally unplanned window shopping  The lady you and I got ours from had a second batch growing out, I wonder if she has just now sold this batch to HFF? Anyway, there were about maybe 8-10 in the female tank, but only one that I could see with black pectoral fins - the rest looked similar to my undeveloped male. You might get lucky, there may be another real female hiding in the corner cos I stopped looking as soon as I saw my one

the-obstacle
I'm pretty sure this is the last female there was in the tank. You're right, they are tiny compared to the males we got from Avondale. She was completely different looking to the males in the same tank so I'm sure she is a she. Can somebody confirm? excuse the algae on the sand, I had just done a wall scrape and hadn't siphoned it out yet.
