smidey
you will need to weigh it down with something until it soaks up enough way to stay down. maybe rocks or similar?

ryanjury
ok thanks should i use sand for cichlids or go for gravel? Depends on what cichlids and what you like or can get hold of cheap/free As smidey said just weigh the wood down until it soaks up enough water to sink. Matto
i dont want anything that changes the ph ,i thought i might have a look at bunnings for some.
David R
Cemix builders sand from Bunnings is great for cichlids [massive generalisation!] and doesn't alter the pH.
smidey
the wood is going to lower the ph.....
Sharkie
you could also screw it to some undergravel filter plate then cover the filter plate with your gravel just make sure you use stainless screws
hovmoller
you could also screw it to some undergravel filter plate then cover the filter plate with your gravel just make sure you use stainless screws I bought some cheap (<$1) dark brown ceramic bathroom tiles, drilled a hole in the middle and fixed driftwood to it with a stainless steel screw. It's heavy so will weigh down any piece of wood and another benefit is that you can position the wood in any crazy angle you want.. Just remember to place the tile on a thin layer of sand/gravel on the bottom otherwise the screw head will put pressure on the bottom pane of glass = very bad!! smidey
you could soak it in a bucket or whatever is big enough for it until it gets water logged.

Carlos & Siran
I just resined a large piece of slate to the bottom of ours, seems to have done the trick.
