the-obstacle
Hi, I've found a couple of juvenile double red cockatoo's that are awesome. My tank is about half way through cycling - would these guys handle that last little bit of the cycle if I was to get them now or should I absolutely wait until the cycle is complete? I know it's best to wait it out but I'm feeling impatient today and a bit concerned I'll miss out on these little guys. Am I a complete idiot for even considering it? ryanjury
How big is the tank, how are you cycling and are their plants etc in there?
the-obstacle
How big is the tank, how are you cycling and are their plants etc in there? 75L, cycling with 5 black neons, a flying fox and a panda cory. Can't even get the ammonia to read anything more than 0.25ppm after 2 weeks but there's a bit of (very slight) movement on the nitrite side. There are 3 swords, a forest of ambulia (25cmx25cm) and some hair grass that's yet to come out of the pots. The other fish are super happy and although I tried to transfer all the good bacteria from the pre-cycled tank I'm sure this one hasn't kept much of it as there is some ammonia and no nitrates. There's also been a bloom of brown algae in the last week which happened to the last tank about 1/2 way through.
ryanjury
I would say you should be fine then, you have a fairly big tank fairly light stocking plants and started off with a cycled filter..
Sunbird73
I am sure if you asked nicely the seller would keep them for you another week or two until you felt there was less risk with your tank? Tho it doesn't sound like you are far off with yr tank.... (if it was me and I wanted to speed things up a bit/reassurance I would get some seachem stability - but that depends if you have $17 odd to spare. )

I've got stress zyme in there at the moment but was thinking maybe some 'cycle' would be a better option? I also noted someone overseas was using a pure amonia liquid of some sort to speed it up. Looks like I'm booked to pick them up (and the new pandas) on saturday so I'm happy to do whatever I can to make it less stressful on them. ryanjury
Stability is probably another one of those untested products that is supposed to make your tank magically cycle but is more than likely just a waste of money I am not a fan of these things and it sounds like you have done everything you can just build up slowly and it should be fine. Joshlikesfish
What type of filter are you running? I can do you a swap for some cycled media. Sure somebody closer to you will be able to also

Sure somebody closer to you will be able to also Can't hurt I guess. I did put some of the media from the old tank in the 2224 cannister but it was like putting a grain of sand in a sandpit compared to how much more fresh stuff I had to put in. it's cool, the fish are happy, the water is stable so I'll just take it easy and let it run it's course. The panda i added yesterday has pretty much cleared all the brown algae off the silica by digging it up which is awesome. When it's settling it's white again and there are little brown puffs floating to the filter inlet.
