Ice222
Is there anywhere that I can get a Light Fixture Hanger similar to link in NZ? I can't hang my light from the ceiling or the wall so I'd need to go for something similar to that. If anyone has other suggestions, please let me know. Morcs
With the glo unit I just nailed some bits of wood either end of my stand. of course on a longer tank its still doable as the bits on the end of the light extend.
phoenix44
You also get a bird cage holder that has only one hook (about $60 RRP). Doesn't need modification if you are using a single halide, but if you are using a set of tubes like the unit above; you'll need to use the metal wires and the holder thing to balance the tube and make it totally stable and level. Alternatively I'm sure someone could make something like that.
Ice222
Thanks, I think using the wood would work rather well for this light. Still needing to source a cabinet first though. Wish my dad wasn't overseas, then he could probably make me one. But considering that I'm not at all handy, it seems hard to find someone who can custom a simple 2 door cabinet to that size, with shelving, and holes in the back for wires without going upwards of $400+. Joshlikesfish
What size tank, and are you looking for a hood?
Morcs
Yep what are the dimensions? Might be able to find something on trademe
Ice222
800w x 500d x 750hmm or so. Haven't had the tank made yet but since I plan to do a tank with a custom background with the heaters and filter intakes hidden, then I really need to have around 500 depth. Been looking on Trademe, but most cabinets only come in 400 or so depth. btw Morcs, I just gave that light of yours a go. It's Blinding . chaat
There is a seller on Trade Me named "woodpia". He has custom made quite a few pieces for us at fantastic prices, including our tank stand. He has a showroom over the shore, but factory is in Henderson. Give him a call with the dimensions, I'm sure he will be quite reasonable.
Ice222
His prices do look good, but not really the style I'm looking for. A little too rustic for my liking. not to mention that it would not fit in with anything else in my home . Considering that it will be a display tank in my living room, it kinda matters a bit. It's Blinding . yeah dont look directly at it! youll sse circle black circles in your vision for a wee while! Ill have a scout on trademe for ya tomorrow. Ive found some good cabinets / sideboards etc.. in the past and never paid more than $80. though your tank dimensions are a bit different, more likely to find stuff thats 450D tbh, but you can always get the tank made to slightly different dimensions if needbe. Morcs
Here we go, perfect. not sure what the reserve will be, but i reckon itll easily be within budget. a fair bit longer than what you require... you can always put another tank on it one day http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farming-industry/Office-furniture/Other/auction-320018468.htm
Ice222
There's a reason why the planned tank isn't nay bigger, I don't have any more space for it ! Been thinking about trying for a 45cm depth cabinet instead, but I'm quite certain that it just won't look right, once the BG is in.
