ryanjury
I think these are the super reds you meant to link to. http://www.u2u.idv.tw/stone/htm-e/frame1.htm I haven't seen the first one, but if you have seen the threads with the photos of the fish that a few keepers on here have and have managed to breed they are what are called super reds in the link above. ryanjury
I met an old timer who had 3-400 tanks up north and said that he used to have 4 strains of agassizi plus all sorts of other fish.. Old man talking or truth who knows, but when questioning him on them he seemed to know his stuff.. It is amazing the amount of stuff we have had in the country over the years and lost. danval
You are right there Ryan. Have been looking back on posts back to 2003 relating to Apisto's and people who seemed to be breeding different varieties seem to have died out. User name "Caserole" seemed to do well with the Apisto's but some of the varieties like the Panduro's never kicked on. Is Caserole still about, and does he or she still breed Apisto's? phoenix44
We have enough trouble breeding the double red we have here now, let alone any more strains! Lets hope some more come in. I really like agassizis. On another note, I have some male double reds that will be for sale soon and first picks will go to buyers that have female double reds. Joe
Oh woops I did the Alenquer link twice. Here's the Super Red link: http://apistogramma.benchi.fr/wp-conten ... oworld.jpg They look similar to double red, except the colours are stronger and the anal and dorsal fins are red. They have a lovely filament on the dorsal fin.

Stu is still around and you are right he is an absolute legend with apistos when he puts his mind to it he can breed anything and seems to be able to do it by the thousand.. Unfortunately he is pretty busy with work and not keeping many apistos any more He does have a few but I am unsure what and no none of the amazing ones he used to have.. I believe (well with cockatoos anyway) the differentiation between tripple and double red refers to the colour in the dorsal/anal/tail fin tripple would have colour in all 3 double in 2 etc.. The photos on the net are pretty much show winning photos which are usually in tanks with exceptional lighting and may have been tweaked to look better. I think that the strain that recently came in is very good and most certainly wouldn't be scoffing at having them in the country
firenzenz
I had blue variety about 5 yrs ago. They were relatively easy to come by. Mine was from Jantzens Botany(as it was back then) Also remember orange Flash cockatoo's, triple red cockatoos. and macmasteri were around the same time. It seems that with apistos and rams spawning is one thing, but keeping fry alive and raising them is something else.
