Can you put a 36w t5ho tube in a 54w t5ho ballast?

My tank is 1140 mm long, as far as I know the 54w tubes are quite long, about the same size or longer. So should I get a 54w or 36w.....im pretty sure the 54w tubes wont fit in my tank hood.

Anyone know of watt vs length of tubes?

No.

you match 54W with 54W.

You cannot get 3ft 54W HO tubes - they are only ever 4ft.

So if Im going to get a hagen glo ballast system (not a fixed hood length), I cant use a 36w in a 54w ballast (customised at 3ft length) in my DIY Hood/canopy? I know its wrong to assume but I thought that it might be "backward compatible".

I wanted to get the 54w ballast system so I can attach it to my hood like this

And I wanted it for future use, if I get a longer tank.
