phoenix44
The tank basically has only crypts, some aponogetons, and Rotala rotundifolia with a few sprigs of Hygro. polysperma sunset. Lighting is 1 x 18W 6500K CFL No ferts in the gravel. Never gravel vacuumed. Filtration is an aquaclear HOB with filter wool in it, and a sponge filter sponge over the filter inlet. Admittedly the plants were initially grown under 2x 36W T5HO @ 18000K yes, there are 3 pots in this tank Male Female Tank
firenzenz
Very nice 'P'- I look at the condition of your apistos and can only summize that plant conditioning equates to optimum conditions for your fish. what are the levels of that tank? phoenix44
Thank you. what are the levels of that tank? Would not have a clue I know the pH is either 6 or 6.5 - ill check tomorrow again, but I haven't done a water change in forever. Usually just top up the tank with water as it evaporates. phoenix44
Looking good P44! All set for breeding again so far its been all show and no action / results! Maybe they only like breeding the once. And they're not on the list any more so I haven't tried getting another female to see what happens. phoenix44
Judging by the females colour, slim tummy this morning, and attitude to the male who is still in the tank; I think she has another batch of eggs

David R
Nice work, I like the hidden/lack of visible equipment in the tank.
phoenix44
Good work Must be something in the weather just watched my shellies breed too.. yeah mate, almost certain of it now to be honest. Just took the male out and put him back in the 4ft. If it helps any one else breed them - I reduced the temp to 23.5C from 25C and added a little salt to the tank in anticipation of any fights that would occur with the male and female. Then once the eggs hatch I raise it back to 24 and then 25 just to keep diseases at bay once they are free swimming. Looking at the female now - she has taken quite a beating too and has a ripped tail fin. Those shellies are one species I want to keep as well. Maybe next year. Nice work, I like the hidden/lack of visible equipment in the tank. Thanks, all that is in the tank is the HOB pipe with a black sponge filter sponge over it and one of those fluval mirror series heaters. All covered in that green algae that is on all the glass pieces except the front.

hovmoller
Hey P44. I am curious about the green algae on the sides of your tank. Did it get like that just by never cleaning it? I've never tried that!... interresting. Did it go through a stage of first brown algae then green spot and so on?
phoenix44
Yeah, I just never cleaned it. I used to run twin T5HO lights on here. Just never cleaned the sides, and it grew so I let it be. Looks all natural and what have you  Never got brown algae and green spot on this tank.
