phoenix44
I set one up at a friends house. Quiet as.
Morcs
Sweet thats good enough for me. Now to go and drain the tank thats currently sitting in the way :bounce:
Baroness
I just set one up in the last couple of weeks. mostly quiet but sometimes the lids rattle and need adjusting. My pump/filter (original) seems very powerful and blows the plants around. I get a bit of spashing noise from the outflow distubing the surface. suphew
I get a bit of spashing noise from the outflow distubing the surface. Why don't you just direct the pump outlet elbow down so it doesn't disturb the surface so much?
Baroness
Why don't you just direct the pump outlet elbow down so it doesn't disturb the surface so much? because then it blasts the plants.... I move it almost everyday trying to find the sweet spot
phoenix44
make it face the rear wall of the tank. your plants shouldn't be stuck that far back.
Baroness
I have structured background on the rear wall....also I moved the filter box to the other end of the tank, so the outlet pipe sits differently to 'normal' tis OK . I will persevere and find the perfect spot. I dont mind it stirring up the surface a bit....plus mine is in my dining room - not my bedroom so noise is not an important issue. 8)
land_lubber
I have a Rio 180 in my bedroom and the only hum I hear is from my external Ehiem 2213 & 2226 that I run as well as the internal one.
DennisP
3 filters?!
phoenix44
Ehiem 2213 1 2226 2 internal one. 3 * claps like a demented seal  Filters are your friends.
DennisP
Isn't that a bit of an overkill? At like $200 each?
phoenix44
yeah. over kill is not bad as long as you deal with the flow properly if you need to. I run 2 Fluval 405s and an eheim 2028 on my 4ft. works wonderfully!

I run 2 Fluval 405s and an eheim 2028 on my 4ft. works wonderfully! Flow is a good thing. My 4 foot has about 7000lph of flow in it and it's still pretty calm. phoenix44
Yeah, Flow is good. some fish can't handle it and if you have those fish you need to deal with the excess flow.

Yeap 3 filters you can never have too much filtration I reckon but thats just me. As for the $200 each well the internel filter comes with the tank but the other two I got off trademe for cheap 8)
Ira
Yeah, Flow is good. some fish can't handle it and if you have those fish you need to deal with the excess flow. If they aren't strong enough to handle a gentle flow then they don't deserve to live.
phoenix44
or to small
Morcs
Yep ill probably add a fluval 205 or eheim 2213 in conjunction with the standard filter. Or might try and modify the standard filter. and if that fails get a 305 or 2215
land_lubber
The only reason I kept the standard filter was so I could hide everything in it e.g heater, temp probe, 2226 intake and 2213 intake. I also just have course and fine sponge's in there as well.

Its probably possible to rig it up so if running only 1 external to route the outlet out of the stock outlet too... ooh ideas are forming now
land_lubber
Yeah thats possible, I did look at doing that but can't remember the reason why I didn't
