Sophia
I went to 'a store' today and was looking at gravel. Assistant asked what sort of fish I was having. I replied that I was getting killifish. Assistant says that it's best to get fine gravel for killies because they like to dig about in it. and I thought 'what the bleeeeeep?' is this true or did he mistake a killie for a cory ?! malevolentsparkle
im no killie expert but i have heard they do well in peat bottomed tanks. that might just be for breeding though
Joe
I don't know too much about killies either, but if I was keeping them I'd set up a small biotope tank with lots of plants (especially moss) and yes, I'd use peat for the substrate too. Barrie
it totally depends on the type of Killi you get Standard mop spawner will sometimes breed over peat but will rearly dig into it. Peat spawners will try to disturb the gravel so that the eggs are covered
Mr T
I agree with Barrie. I have a 220 litre tank, gravel bottom and heavily planted. I only stock mop spawning killies and have never seen them even attempt to dig in the gravel.

bdspider
If you're still choosing the gravel, have you seen this site? http://www.petstuff101.co.nz/index_files/aquariumsubstrates.htm They do some really nice gravels that petstores don't have + good prices. Also, the owners are lovely, they're on this site somewhere. They donated lots of samples for conference
