Zayne
what is the tanks temp?
BikBok
well I just went through this with my little choc zebra plec. I don't know much about discus but for my plec I added salt, raised the temperature and treated with blue circle white spot cure - but i believe that's hard to get a hold of now. I also did lots of water changes .
phoenix44
yeap. salt. 30degrees C - depending on the tolerance of other fish and finally white spot sure. dose just as it says on the bottle. I would explore why the discus got white spot in the first place.
myfishybuisness
Um how much salt do I use and one of my bristle nose I think got it now the whole tank does so it was hard to pick up on the bn because he already has spots
myfishybuisness
how much salt for an 80 litre tank
Stella
1/2 tsp of salt per litre. 80L tank = 80 divided by 2 = 40 teaspoons 1 tsp = 6g 40 x 6 = 240g
phoenix44
No no no. That's too much salt for an 80L tank. I can tell you that by visually looking at 250gm of salt. That's how much I'd put in a 180L tank.
myfishybuisness
ok i think ill put in 4 teaspoons then
ryanjury
4tsb will do absolutely nothing, TBH I would stick a handful in a 80L tank on day one. If no improvement in 2 days then I stick in another half a handful.. It has been a long time since I have whitespot but that worked last time.. phoenix44
yeah. put a handful in. not 250gm though. more like 100gm.
phoenix44
you are using rock salt eh?
BikBok
ok i think ill put in 4 teaspoons then make it more like 4 Tablespoons which will give you around 60 - 70g salt. This is still under what plants can tolerate if you have plants but you could go up to 5T short term. That's the concentration I used for my Plec and I doubled it over a few days until spots cleared and then started reducing again. I think BNs can tolerate salt quite well and my choc zeb was fine with that.
myfishybuisness
ok thanks i have done 80grm of salt and i will does again with that if there is no improvement thanks to all of you helping save my discus
phoenix44
Don't forget the white spot cure either. Do regular water changes and keep adding Whiet spot cure as it says on the bottle with each water change.
Adrienne
One gram per litre of water is the amount I use if I am putting salt in the tanks as a standard dose so you may find you need to go a little more. Good luck
