Joe
I'm allergic to bowfronts and any tanks with curved corners too! They just look aweful, especially the fact that when you look at them the fish/plants look all distorted. I am actually thinking of getting a bigger tank now, because of the lighting. I am thinking of getting an Arcadia 110 Twin 150watt Slimline Pendant. So the tank will be about 112-115cm long, and about 60cm wide, and 55cm high. I don't like having tanks too high, but it might have to be 55cm high or else it might look weird. How thick should the glass be for this size? I was thinking about 1cm. At the moment I'm focusing on getting the lightinghood. Once I've got that, the tank will be next on the list, and then I'll try and get a custom-made ADA-type stand so I can suspend the lighting. Mum isn't keen on having in suspended on the ceiling or wall brackets! You can do anything, but whats your budget? I don't really have a budget! If I want something that's really expensive, I just save my money until I can afford it.
Ice222
I meant that I really have a preference for Bowfront tanks. Maybe it's cause I like tiny fish. I know bow fronts distorts the fish a bit, I find that it kinda magnifys them, so it makes my tiny fish a little easier to see. As for my budget, I don't really have one yet. Only just got a job so I'll just save for the moment and see what I can afford in a few weeks time. If I do decide to custom a tank, I'd probably be after a 60lx38wx40h bowfront and looking at spending a few hundred dollars on the tank alone. I'd only really need the front to be low iron, so just curious about what the availability/prices for the front panel might be like.
peet
I threw this question to a mate who works for a glass factory and heres his answer: "Yeah, we sell Ultra Clear + which has just replaced Starphire and Optiwhite is our competitors version of really clear glass" So I guess the answer is yes, you can get it here in NZ, and that there are also other options out there i.e. Ultra Clear + Cheers - Peet
Joe
Thanks peet. "Yeah, we sell Ultra Clear + which has just replaced Starphire and Optiwhite is our competitors version of really clear glass" So do you mean the name Ultra Clear + has replaced the other names, or is it a slightly different version or something? peet
Ultra Clear + has replaced starphire........ Optiwhite is still available but both products are the same thing (very clear glass without the green tinge) but made by different manufacturers
Joe
Thanks peet. Do you know where I'd be able to find some OptiWhite in Blenheim, Nelson or Christchurch?
Caryl
Joe, there is this really neat invention called "The Telephone". As the adverts used to say "Let your fingers do the walking" and ring the local glaziers. If they don't have it they can possibly tell you who does in the other 2 centres.
