suphew
what legal stuff, from DOC or MAF is needed to keep native gecko's? Is there a licence or cert etc? I know a guy that found a bunch under a house that was being pulled down. He is trying to do the right thing but isn't having much luck finding information. He rang MAF and was told they have no idea what is was talking about.

Moya
I once chatted to a guy who said you talk to DOC to attain a license to keep natives, with varying grades of licensing corresponding to difficulty of the reptiles and amphibians you can keep. He said that this was free to attain. However the cage and equipment you planned to keep them in must first be ok'd by a DOC member, with checkups occuring a couple of times a year. Also, your obviously not able to take specimens from the wild, but have to have one donated to you from a breeder. Sounded mighty cool
suphew
So has no one been through the process of getting a licence? If possible I'd like to hear from someone that has actually done it, I'm assuming it's one thing to have read the official process but quite another to actually go through it. Assuming of course there is actually a licence you have to get?

bdspider
http://www.reptiles.org.nz/index.php?page=regulations-and-husbandry There's some info to have a look at here too, about the cage requirements & different levels of permits. Insect Direct
As Moya mentioned above. You cant keep wild specimens, have to obtain them from another breeder/permit holder. Ring doc if the house is getting detroyed along with the habitat, hopefully they will be able to be relocated. Id be very surprised if your aloud to keep them if you get a permit, but you never know.
