SamH
You can also have a nice planted tank without adding co2, ferts, fancy substrate etc And that is the theme of my most successful tank. I just chucked some plants in, didn't put any effort into them and they're growing better than ever :-?

DennisP
Well, i took over half of the water out so i have some if i buy the soil tomorrow so it doesn't have to recycle, but, after this thread im not sure if i will spend $100+ on some dirt which many reckon i do not need. Also regretting it because my tank hasn't fully cycled yet, it should be right at the end, but still.. its only setting it back.
DennisP
Bought myself Some excel today, a large crypt (not sure what type) and 3 bundles of hairgrass. Hairgrass has been split up and i now have heaps of it.
DennisP
http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad1/ ... rio001.jpg removed the taller piece of wood so i have more room. What plants to add? Any Ideas? I added 3 pots of hair grass and spread them across the front. Hopefully they will form some kinda carpet.... :-?

Yeah, make sure you split them up well, like this so they spread quickly and stay free of algae.

SamH
What nice looking Stem plants would you recommend? Hygrophila polysperma is IMO the best there is. Can't really think of any others right now :-?

Increase trace nutrients (daily dosing if possible) and improve lighting if needed (replace old tubes and run a 10 hour photoperiod). DennisP
How would i add lights into a juwel aquarium? anyone know? The lights i have are about 6 weeks old, so still fairly new.
phoenix44
Trust me, you do not need any more lights in a juwel. Add some reflectors if you have to. I mean you can grow glosso under those lights.

DennisP
Where would i get reflectors from? possible to make them with tin foil or something? lol :bounce:
Caryl
Tin foil works well. I have also seen one made using old CDs :-?
N1CK
AFAIK you can buy ones for the juwel lights that clip on too them, not sure how much they are though...
phoenix44
100% reflectors can be bought from a store. otherwise, use a thin warehouse mirror, but it to size and shape and stick it to the lids of the tank. works a treat, but then obviously the lids lose the ability to bend. DennisP
How much are these light reflectors?
Jennifer
Try asking your LFS, I have found they often have extra laying around and are often happy to share or sell a piece. Not sure where else you could get it. Maybe something like it at Bunnings?
