trav
hi i have resently just bought a 6 foot tank and have renforced it. i am wondering the position of the tank is pointing north so on the right of the tank the sun rises and on the left it sets i am not worried about right or left because there are walles on both sides i am worried about the front or around miday .there is a big glass sliding door in the front so when the sun is at north it means that quite alot of sun will shine on the tank there are quite alot of trees as you can see i the photos so that stops some sun light. i have been told thatgreen ulgue will grow on the glass and i do not want that. what do you think ???is it ok or should i move it . it has no water in so will get a few peopl to help move it .i am sorry if you do not understand but if you do please help:) here are some pics the tank on the right of the photo the sun rises and on the left it sets if you need any more information on wat i mean etc please ask

Ira
Sunlight will only make algae grow on the glass if you have poor water conditions. If you don't, then you're just getting free lighting.

Stella
Misc thoughts: Algae is pretty much a fact of life. Accept it. Your rocks will look nicely aged and don't clean the back glass to allow a nice natural background to grow (best if the back pane is painted black rather than commercial backdrop). If you limit nutrients then it cannot grow so fast. Are you planning on having algae eaters? (mine don't, so I have to clean the glass weekly, it isn't onerous) Remember there will be less sun in the summer as the sun is higher and rises ans sets closer to north. You could pull the curtains when you are out during the day.
Carlos & Siran
The fish appreciate a bit of algae for desert

Jennifer
If you keep fast growing plants and keep them healthy by fertilising regularly and adding liquid carbon or CO2 injection, the plants should soak up excess nutrients and thus prevent algae. I have a little tank that gets full sun for several hours a day but it has absolutely no algae because the plants are very healthy and growing fast. Its a fine balance, but it is possible. Ira
is the fx5 filter good enough couse i realy dont want green algue:) The filter will do very little to combat algae, they don't really take nutrients out of the water.
