I have had 4 (2 black neon and 2 black widows) fish die in the last 2 days and there are afew fish (more black widows a blue ram, Kuhli loach and more) looking very unhappy. i do water changes and test the water offen. just done a water change and tests but it seems to be fine but its not looking good at this stage, any ideas on what could be happing? or what i could do? all swimming very slow and i can pretty much pick them up if i wanted to

Can you give us a few water test results, ph and the temp of the water as well?

Tank size filtratration?

Where do you get your water from - I only ask because in some areas when it rains a lot and there is a chance of seepage into the water system the council will add chemicals into the water.

Ph is at 7.0

Ammonia is about 0.25 - 0.50

temp is 24.7 atm

150l tank with a sunsun external filter suitable up to 250l tank at 1000l a hour

How long has the tank been running? A mature tank should have 0.00 Ammonia. I'd do another water change to bring that down some more.

Sorry temp is the same. just had a good look and it looks like some of the fish fins a torn/split. is there a fin rot disease they could have?

Hi spaceman. How often do you do water changes?

How can i get rid of the ammonia?

With water changes :)

is there a fin rot disease they could have?

Yes, usually caused by imperfect water conditions but often easily fixed.

I do it every 2 weeks, i did 1 last weekend and again today. I add treatment when i do it aswell. I added melafix earlier and they have picked up abit. hope it helps. Anything esle i could do?

Hi. You could increase the water changes perhaps. I try to do a 30%+ every week.

What's the 'treatment' you add? The Melafix will help :)

stress coat and stress zyme

If you want to ease the strain on your wallet you can stop using these. I never do. We're extremely lucky in Christchurch, our water is the best in the country IMO :D
