cleadus1
what type of plant can be used to grow a nice mat on the bottom of the tank, like when you see those cool aquascaping photos on the net and its all nice and green... Fishkeepa
glosso (Glossostigma elatinoides) is very nice and forms a low dense mat, but from what i understand, it needs a lot of light to get it to grow well. Hairgrass and dwarf sagittaria need less light and i think they both look quite effective, however they dont quite stay as low to the substrate as glosso, but can still grow quite dense
N1CK
glosso does need higher light to stay as a carpet, Hairgrass doesn't but will just grow slow. And if you get dwarf sag make sure its S. Microfolia, S. subulata can grow up to 30cm+ high
SamH
Hairgrass doesn't but will just grow slow. Yeah, only if you don't split it up enough! I have a 90x40 tank planted with glosso, got it all (except for a spot on top on the hill) done with one pot. Only catch is, it took me six hours cutting the glosso into pairs of leaves and planting them individually Perhaps a picture of what scapes you're talking about might help? SamH
glosso, thats the 1! is it common here? Be sure you have a good full day free, and a lot of patience. A little time spent planting now, will save you time watching it and waiting for it to spread out.

phoenix44
sagitaria microfolia, is a dwarf version of subulata and only grows short and forms a carpet in a tank. It will do well under high lighting, but does fine under a normal amount of light as well.
