piggyvir
one of my oranda/fantail starts having white patches on the tail - what does this mean? the fish has slowed down recently and I have checked the water quality - no ammonia nor nitrate.. Ph is around 7.7 I have added a lot of plants into my tank and have done water and filter change.. is my fish sick or the weather is too hot? Caryl
Clear white or white white? Sometimes they change colour.
piggyvir
changes from clear/transparent to opaque white
Caryl
If it is just a colour change, without the edges getting ragged or red streaks running through, I would assume it is just a colour change. If the ends are ragged and look like they are rotting it may be fin rot.
piggyvir
it's fin rot again !!! I went away for a few days and the fish got a shredded tail.. why do my fish keep on getting fin rot?
Caryl
The 2 most common causes are poor water quality or stress. If there is blood in the fins it could be bacterial.
piggyvir
there's blood in the fin - what's the best way to fix this?

piggyvir
there's no ammonia in the water Oranda, 6 months old, Juwel Rio 300.... Would that be caused by adding too much plants in the tank?
Caryl
Any nitrate? How many goldfish are in the tank? Seems odd. Is there any decor or rocks in the tank on which the fish may be catching their tails?
piggyvir
15 fish - 10 of them are very tiny...
Caryl
You say there is no nitrate which doesn't sound right. An established tank should have 0 readings for ammonia and nitrIte but 25ppm or lower nitrAte. Goldfish produce a lot of waste, even the small ones! Tank looks lovely though.
