redracer77
Hi, I have a 300L 4' tank running a aqua one cf1200 and I have been using a aqua one 102f internal to boost flow but is getting noisy and have just put it in the quarantine tank. I was thinking either Eheim aqua ball or Fluval U3 Has anyone got either of these? any recomendations or something else to look at?
Ira
Get another CF1200.
redracer77
Sorry should have said I don't have space for another canister, I have thought about a bigger canister but I also like the idea of 2 filters in case 1 fails
Morcs
The eheim aquaball or even eheim pickup are waaay better than the Fluval U series. Personally Id get an Aquaclear powerhead (even the 70 model pumps 1800lph) and use a quickfilter attachement for waterpolishing - means you can take the finer wool outta the CF1200, meaning longer periods between cleaning it. Failing that I have two monstrous Aquaclear 110s sat around doing nothing...
redracer77
Get another CF1200. How would I set this up? both outputs at one end or 1 at each end or 1 spray bar and 1 straight? I will have a look when I get home to see if it will fit in the cabinet
kiwiplymouth
Do you remember my Dem/E.yellow 5 footer downstairs? That has a CF1200 at each end
Ira
How would I set this up? both outputs at one end or 1 at each end or 1 spray bar and 1 straight? Yes. All will work, it's personal preference really. People might argue about over what gives you 1-2% more filtering, but whichever ends up giving you the flow you prefer or just the simplest plumbing(One filtering each end) is best. Navarre
Hmmm doest that depend on fish type you are keeping if you were looking at plecos or current fish both inlets at one end might be better Also I have my spray bar at teh base of my tank at the back to push detritus up and forward. makes for an easier clean If you can only go one canister filter go fx5
Morcs
If you can only go one canister filter go fx5 Seconded. I still think an AC powerhead with quickfilter attachment is the best solution. I use one alongside an FX5 on a 450L 8)
redracer77
Isn't a FX5 going to be too much for my tank? They have quite a high output
redracer77
With a little more research the FX5 is too big for my cabinet, so I bought a 405 to go along side the CF1200. Any Ideas for media configuration? I have set them up with both inputs at one end and both outputs at the other end.
Jennifer
My preference with the 405s is to use Eheim Mech media in the lower basket, then the ceramic noodles that came with the filter in the middle baskets and topped with filter wool then Eheim Pro media in the top basket. Works very well IMO.
