firefish
A while back, I saw that my crypt had a baby (whats the name for a plant baby?) Now its gotten bigger & theres another baby too :bounce: I'd like to separate the older baby - but whats the best way? This is the 3 plants: And the bases: Its the one on the left that i'd like to separate. It has about 5 leaves now
firefish
I thought it might have been that easy. Thanks for helping
Romeo
In my experience they don't like it when you disturb them, they'll take a month or so to get back in full swing. If you haven't already got some undergravel fertilizer it may pay to get some JBL Kugeln Balls or something similar :].
phoenix44
I would shove a JBL ball near the roots and let the spread on their own
firefish
I wanna have the baby crypt in another tank (the other tank is quite close, but I don't think that the crypt would spread that far  )
phoenix44
snip it off if its big enough. it may melt but it may not, and if it does itll come back eventually. (if you had come earlier i would have shown you all my melted crypts and how they decided to come back)
firefish
Should I snip it closer to the little plant? The plant is about as big as the adult one when I first got it.
firefish
I separated them today. I decided to take the smaller one too. The roots on the larger baby was twice as long as the plant hopefully they'll grow
firefish
good news - they haven't melted yet and theres a couple of babys from each plant now :bounce:
alanmin4304
They don't like being disturbed so will be most productive if you leave them to develop a good clump before seperating them.
