fadeless
I have lots of questions Im needing a filter for my cold tank as im getting so many fish in it now. I have checked out the Aqua one website and they have the internal ones with 500L/hr and 1200L/hr, which one whould be best for a 150L tank? Also how do i go about adding it to my tank, do i have to run it in a seperate tank first or straight into my tank? Also im gonna have to put a heater in during the winter for my guppies, danios and bristlenose, it would probably be set at 20 degrees, would the goldfish cope with it ok? TIA

kiwiplymouth
Aim to filter the voume of your tank at least 7 times per hour. If your tank is 150L you will need a 1000lph filter. I would go for a canister filter too
fadeless
Does the cannister one give better filtration?
kiwiplymouth
Yes, they hold far more filter media and more types of filter media than an in the tank filter. You also have the added benefit of it not taking up room in your tank.
raewyna
Re temperature. The goldfish will be fine at 20deg - they spend the summer much hotter than that. I've read that goldfish have more tolerance for warm water than most tropicals but I think if they are too hot their oxygen requirement becomes a problem. I think a heater set to 20 would be a great idea for over wintering those fish that don't like it too cold. I kept a handful of guppies in our dining room over the winter with no heater. Some nights the room went down to 13. They were OK, but not really happy - slowed right down and didn't eat much - but did still eat and grow. Just not as fast as the warm ones. Having said that, the outside goldfish and minnows slow right down and stop eating over winter too. The minnows totally disappear for a couple of months. So I have mixed feelings on how cold is too cold. I did eventually warm the guppies up again though.
Morcs
A cannister would be best. Something like a Aqua one CF1200. I have found the CF1200 to be a perfect match for a 150L tank. Also look at the aquaclear range of filters. a 110 will be awesome on your tank - their mechanical filtration is unmatched.
