Aquila
Hi guys! I'm going over to Abel Tasman for the first time this weekend! We will have most of Saturday and about half of Sunday to explore the park. What are the best sections to see (as we don't have time to trek the whole trail)? We will be leaving our car in the parking lot (wherever that is) Saturday morning and Saturday night we are staying in one of the cabins. I know you can kayak part of the trail and we are keen to do that, and also catch a water taxi part of the way to save time. I also know you have to plan certain crossings around the tide cycle...which will be about 7am and 7pm lowtide this weekend. Any suggestions on the spots we should definitely not miss?? Caryl
I am tempted to reply "His left knee is popular" but I will control myself  You will love whatever bits you manage to visit and regret not seeing the bits you missed so it won't matter what you end up doing in the end. The kayaking offers some spectacular scenery.
supasi
I agree with Caryl, but personally, I like the northern end of the park(north of Totaranui, near Mutton Cove). Less people around as its further from main access points. Tonga Bay is great for snorkling as its a marine reserve, There are also lots of Native fish in the stream by the campsite. I also really liked Bark bay. Nice inlet with a waterfall and safe swimming when the tide is in. Talking about it is making me want to go back there again. I love the place
spoon
a lot people walk to torrent bay/anchorage it take around 4 hrs from marahau then catch the water ferry back there is a nice hut at anchorage and a lagoon between there and torrent bay up behind the lagoon is a spot on a river called cleopatras pool it has a natural hydroslide carved into the rock. both toreent bay and anchorage are nice beaches and from memory bark bay is another 3 hours walk perhaps a plan could be to catch the water taxi to bark bay then walk to torrentbay/anchorage stay the night then kayak to marahau the next day i miss living in the area lived there for 17 years!
