wellmax
Hi All, UV Filters are told to be the answer to all our algae problems. Even on the box it states this fact. Holywood retail price for one of these to do a 300 to 400 litre tank is about $150, quite pricey, but then if they work could be an excellent product. Has anyone here used one of these and did it really work as stated?? Regards Wellmax
Ira
Only effective for waterborne algae. For algae on surfaces you might as well take the cash and use it to scrub the algae off rocks.
suphew
You're far better off addressing the cause of the algae, UV is just a bandaid.
LYNDYLOO
My Aunty and Uncle talked to the Guy from Brooklands about this Algae Problem, he has in his Tank. Not sure what part of the Country you are from, they are in Wanaka, they were told that the Algae Problem they have, will be related to the Water they have down there. So the Guy at Brooklands recommended they use a UV Sterilser, I have yet to heasr from them as to how the Tank is doing since this Uv Sterilser has been added to the Filter. Will give them a ring tomorrow too see what difference if any, the UV Steriliser has made.

Different algae of course have different causes and different solutions. I have found that the answer to all my algae problems was to add a small school of Siamese Algae Eaters and to stop feeding my fish kiwifruit! [Yes I am serious... It was an experiment that didn't go very well...]
