diver21
well ive got a 2ft tank setup with a sword of sorts, a java fern type plant and 4 other cheep things, the tanks set up with UGF and the gravel and plants just seem to get covered in this green gunk. is it happening because ive got UGF therefore too much o2 in the water and not enough co2? or would it be from the lighting, a twin bulb fluro that just sits ontop thats hardly been on this week. also my sword type thing isnt really playing the game and the leaves are all going brown/yellow and dieing
Caryl
Like a green sheet? That is cyanobacter, not algae. Opinions vary as to the cause. What sort of lighting do you have on it?

alanmin4304
Plants need light so if you hardly have had the lights on they will not be having a good day.
diver21
yes thats the stuff, how do i get rid of it? ive only been having the light on for a few hours a day since thats turned up, it was on for about 12-14 hours a day before that. alanmin4304
Furan 2 will get rid of it. Siphon off as much as you can then treat and siphon off again a few days later.
raewyna
Some plants don't like the UGF - the water movement upsets their roots. The Java fern should be OK, but the sword might be suffering from that. The answer is to put the plant into a pot. Getting the plants growing well will help them out-compete the algae.
