LisaC
My fighter (which I was never sure if it was a male or female) has a bulging abdoman (I guess) - my son (who was used to pregnant guppies) thought she was pregnant  I have a photo, but don't have photobucket or whatever. I am currently treating the tank for whitespot. Can anyone tell me what could be wrong? Thanks.
SamH
Is the bulge to the left, right, above or below of the fish? Does the fihs appear to be different in any other way?
LisaC
Underneath & bulges out both sides when looking from behind (my anatomy of fish is a bit shocking) Just looks like his/her usual self otherwise.
SamH
That's how some fighters, especially females full of eggs are. Do these look similar?
kiwiplymouth
Does it have a white pimple on its belly? If so, all is probably normal and all it means is that you have a fat girl with an egg spot.
LisaC
The bulge is a bit closer to the gills, and white-ish A breeder on this forum was unable to sex the fish - it doesn't have a white egg spot Thank so much
LisaC
I should have said, I have had him/her for 5 months, and this is a first.

Caryl
Photobucket is still denying acess while they work on their site - again   This seems to happen quite a bit lately. I will check again in the morning Lisa and hopefully get that pic up for you.
Mel
Are the scales sticking out?
Caryl
Here it is... Finally sneaked into Photobucket a different way. Must have got a corrupted file last night when we had power problems due to weather. The UPSs were beeping and burping and lights dimmed several times
LisaC
Thanks so much for uploading those photos Caryl Fishy is looking really sad around the filter inlet now, letting herself be sucked by the filter
Adrienne
Sorry, I can't help. Its not dropsy so may be bacterial or has she got herself stuck somewhere. If the filter is strong she may have been sucked against it before. Is it possible to get a picture side on of the actual area or is it just on the top of her back. You could try isolating her and adding 1gm of rock salt per litre of water and leave her in it for a couple of days.
twinkles
my girl in the community tank looked like that when she ate too much food once, didn't feed for a few days and she was fine. Could that be it? I'm no expert :-?
fishfishfish!
I find this all very interesting. My mother and I had had many (well it felt like many ) fighters (females) look just like this and they went downhill from there... we had NO idea what went wrong. If i remember correctly this would happen after we had bred from her... It was like she had soo many eggs and she didnt know what to do with them?? Or wasnt able to get rid of them?? Egg Bound was a term thrown around bit but i have no idea. I would be very interested to see options on how to turn these poor girls back uphill. Oooppps  I was looking in the wrong place, most of my girls look like that, its when they are carrying eggs. If not spawned she will drop them herself when she is ready unless she is too fat. If she is too fat she will become egg bound but she doesn't look big enough for that. Looks like a female to me.
LisaC
Thanks for that everyone. So do I need to dose her with salt Adodge, or just let her be?
Adrienne
let her be unless you are worried. fighters will tolerate low levels of salt in their tanks on a permanent basis anyway.
