both look like males to me?

:o How do you tell? I thought they look quite similar too. They are almost exactly the same length, but the second pic is slightly thinner across the body and appears to a sharper nose. Maybe I was just staring too long.

they are both pretty slim.

can you get some more pics?

particularly of any spiny things like hairs on the fins and body, head etc.

last resort - vent sex them but its not so easy.

now where is mr. pleco?

I couldn't hold them upside down. They kept squirming when I tried to pick them up and I think it was pretty stressful for all three of us.

I'm just uploading them all to photobucket now, I'll put them in a folder then post the folder link here. I'm not sure how much it'll help though, I didn't get any good pics of their spiny things.

Relax Mate.

At 6cm and one yr old you are 18mths away.

your fish's parents were over 3 yrs and 9-10cm and the sexing was only possible at about 8cm.

My advice if you want to breed these guys is get another 3-4 over the nxt yr or so and build up a breeding colony.

I'm not too concerned about breeding them right now or anything, but I would like to know if I should expect some more fighting between them as they get older; right now they live in the same cave and hang out together all the time; I'd prefer that they stay friends that have to separate them or move them to a big tank to stop the fighting.

They hang because they are juvi's and as a co;ony fish they would hang in numbers while young, the young males eventually driven off.

You should be safe from any skirmishes relating to territories for quite a while yet.

The cave is probably the preffered hiding spot at this stage. Maybe have some hidey spots right around the cave if there isn't already.

If you did have breeding in mind down the future then bldg up and introducing them young would be the go.
