LYNDYLOO
Hmmm  Now this maybe abit of a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway  Has anyone ever had Guppies in with Discus, they have this poor lost lonely Blue Turk at the pet shop here, I have bought a New Tank and Stand for what was going to be my Guppy Tank, thought maybe I could pop this Blue Turk in the Tank along with the Guppies. I'm sure he would be good at keeping the Ever Increasing Guppy Population down with thinning out the Fry I have Neons in my Exsisting Discus Tank and the Discus dont bother them, so thought Neons and Guppies are of a similar size so maybe I could pop them in together. Morcs
Id say go for it. Get 3 females and a male, let them breed, segregate the fry until they grow a bit, then mmm nice snack for Mr Discus
LYNDYLOO
I've already got about 40 Guppies in what I normally use as my Hospital Tank, They're just waiting for me to set up the New Tank
Discusguru
As much as you pity the poor discus, I would leave it alone. You might be taking home a whole lot of problem.
LYNDYLOO
Apparently this Discus belongs to a Customer of the Petshop. She took the Blue Turk into him as she had lost her other 2 Discus, from what she said was the Water Supply down in Manakau. I would have thought if the other 2 Discus had Died of something else, then surely this one would have died too by now , he's probably been there about a month or more now. He looks Pretty Healthy to me, he's rather a Big Fella. That's the reason I would pop him in a Tank on his own, I don't want to be infecting my Discus if there IS something wrong with him. Discusguru
If you must have him/her, then make sure you quarantine for 4 wks minimum to make sure there is no hitch hikers that came with the fish.
LYNDYLOO
OK Ron Will Quaratine him in the New Tank that I set Up, then slowly introduce the Guppys out of the Hospital Tank they are in now, after 4 weeks.

Good idea Ron This should be followed with all fish, but especially those charity sad looking cases from the petshops..
Aquila
I think most discus and guppies will get along just fine...unless he happens to be a bully I've never had both at the same time in the same tank, but there are several tanks I've seen on YouTube that do have such communities...and all the fish look really good together! Do you also have another tank which you have discus? Sorry, I may have misunderstood... If so, then I think after you quarantine this one for a long time and have him live with the guppies and there are no illnesses then I think he'd be happy with the other discus in the end. ryanjury
The only problem I could see would be the temp, guppies would probably handle it but don't think they would like being up at 30C.
LYNDYLOO
I Could pop a couple of Guppies into the Quarantine Tank with the New Discus for a while and see how they go before introducing the rest of them.
megs27
I have guppies in with my discus and the guppy fry took to feeding off my discus looked like he was feeding his own babies!!! Have since removed all guppies bar three as the discus couldn't keep up with the guppy fry and now I have about 40 or so adult guppies and about 100 fry that I'm about to get rid of. So it works but watch the guppies don't start hassleing the discus.
LYNDYLOO
Thanks for that info Megs Did the Guppies cope OK with the increased temp that the Discus are kept in??
megs27
Yep the tank sits at about 30deg and no fatalities and breeding very well like guppies do I think guppies would probably live with goldfish in a pond in summer they are that adaptable!!! LYNDYLOO
Was hoping to rescue the Big Black Ghost Knife they had there too, but he had gone before I got there Apparently the girl in the Petshop has taken him home, so I hope she's looking after him the way she should be
LYNDYLOO
Can you tell me Aquilam_11 What is the name of the Tall Fluffy Plant in your photo of the Guppys. I've been looking for this not sure if it's Ambulia or Cabomba.
Aquila
I think they were Ambulia. 'Foxglove' was nice enough to provide me with most of the plants in the tank, so she will know for sure. It's a shame but they died on me...all the other plants are thriving, but the 'Ambulia' withered away

LYNDYLOO
Have popped a Couple of Guppies in with this Big Fella now, just to see how they cope with the Higher Temps, so far they're doing well. I popped them int eh tank before heading off to Working thinking all the Time while I'm at work, I bet I get home and he's eaten them, but No, to my surprise, they're very happily swimming around together Have a Blue Turk thats given me problems from Day 1, I've done the whole Hospital Tank thing, treated with Furan2 then with Metro under the Instructions of the Great Discusguru (Ron), he's been back in the Main Tank for a couple of weeks now, not sure he's a Happy Chappy The other 6 Discus I have in the Main Tank harass him untill he goes and hides out in the back corner. I'm seriously thinking of moving him out of the Main Tank and adding him to the Tank that the Big Fella is in along with the Guppies. I'm sort of thinking maybe the 6 Discus in the Main Tank are seeing the other Discus as an Imposter so to speak, really hate seeing him being Bullied they way he is, he hasn't spent alot of time in the Main Tank, so they haven't really had the chance to grow together. Just want to see this Little Guy happy and healthy, he's having moments of turing Dark also, I'm thinking this is because he is stressed from being picked on all the time. I try and feed him sort of seperately, but that doesn't always happen either. Any other ideas are most welcome Lynda
