LYNDYLOO
I'm looking at setting up a Guppy Only Tank :bounce: I've seen one at the Petshop that I rather like, Tank and Stand would cost me round $200 Problem is it only holds 51 Ltrs, would that be alright to house a good number of Guppys?? if so around how many would I be able to have?? twinkles
or just one female... i would compare them to rabbits, but rabbits don't reproduce anywhere near as fast
LYNDYLOO
Crikkeys My Rabbits populated faster than I could keep up with Hoping my Guppys wont be quite as keen
twinkles
if you put a male and a couple of girls in, you'll have probably 100+ babies in less than a month, and the same 4 weeks later. As long as there's a little bit of cover for them they'll fill the tank with the first drop i had hoped that adding a couple of siamese fighters to one of our community tanks might deal with the excess guppies, but nope, two weeks later I had to take out 30 more fry. I'm sure they did eat some though.

LYNDYLOO
 Phoenix  I couldn't do that, I'm sure plenty of people do breed them for live food, but it's something I just cant bring myself to do
Dave+Amy
I threw in some feeder guppies 1cmish (bent backs etc) for my Discus as a treat..one survived! and now I have a horible bent back guppy in my tank thought it's beaten the odds of eating eaten it might as well enjoy the rest of its life
LYNDYLOO
My Discus are so damn fussy, I have a Big Orange Fella, he was one of the one's I nearly lost in my last shipment of Discus from Ron, had to nurse him back to health for a week but he's all good now, all he will eat is Bloodworms and Tubifex, he just Loves Them  He will have the odd nibble at Brine Shrimp, but he's not that fussed. Wont have anything to do with Flake or Colourbits  Have even tried Brine Shrimp Flakes, but no, he wont have them either. He comes out to feed when I feed them Colourbits but looks at them then goes away without eating any. Will he be OK with a diet soley of Bloodworms and Tubifex?? May have too look at using Guppys as feeders
phoenix44
starve him until he eats colourbits. either that or try hikari.
Dave+Amy
wow really? Mine know NEVER to turn down food lol..I guess that's way they keep over eating ending with me having to give them epsom salt baths. that's funny because mine won't touch tubiflex worms or freeze dried bloodworms it has to be frozen foods or granules. Have you tried making home-made Discus tucker? mine love it but I haven't had the time lately to make it.. When my Discus were smaller (4cm) they loved fresh guppy young (tiny ones) - I had to keep them in my livebearer tank for a week before their own grow out tank was ready from cycling - so it wasn't me sadistically selecting baby guppies to feed them lol. I'm waiting on a White Diamond from Ron for a different splash of colour BTW LyndyLoo - your tubiflex was picked up this morning, should receive it by friday! LYNDYLOO
Think maybe I started the problem that I now have with him, when he was on Deaths Door, I feed him up on Frozen Bloodworms and Tubifex, thinking I will feed him up on the good stuff, so he will recover from whatever he was stuffering from. Now he wont take anything else :-? Amy: I bought some Discus Tucker specially for him, but none of the Discus are interested in that either, so I feed it to my Swordtails
BikBok
fussy fish - my tuxedo guppy has become a fussy brat - he now ignores the tropical flakes and waits till I feed bloodworms, tubifex or decaps brineshrimp eggs.. and if I don't feed those he'll nibble at the sinking food for the bottom dwellers. guppy breeding - I thought I would let nature take it's course and not try and rescue the fry. My young female had just 7 fry (that I know of) .... a week later there were 3 left and I put in a female betta who manged to eat only one and bite half the tail of another. The two left are now 3 1/2 weeks old, the tail has grown back.. they are colouring up and I reckon they are probably safe now. Hmm, it won't be long before the next lot arrive! Dave+Amy
I think it's time for tough love LyndyLoo...we're doing that to our beardy at the moment. My Discus would be SO envious of your swordtails...this would be the look on their faces I had about 30/40 Guppies (started with 5males:2females ) in my 60L tank with swordtails..but I did big waterchanges to balance the stocking level
trumpetgear
I have 60 odd in a 45 lt tank -----but beware bred like rabbits they do :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
ryanjury
Your fish will get as fussy as you let them, my fish eat everything because they pretty much have no other option I won't go out and buy special food if they're going to be fussy trust me they start eating How many guppies in a 54L tank? My tank with my blue tuxedos in it has 5 adults (4f 1m) and regularly has upto 40-50 fry in it.. I sell them off when they get to 2cm long and do regular large water changes and have had no problems with overcrowding etc. Filter is only a small bubble filter too. sandysme
What would be nice is an all male guppy tank, if it is only for looks and not breeding, I think it would look great..
