SamH
I'm still kind of confused about what tail type my Betta is? I'm thinking crowntail, butterfly? What about those extra rays (if you can see them). Any help on tail type, colouration, etc is much appreciated. Thanks.
Adrienne
I can assure you he's crowntail but not sure if you call him a double ray ct or a double double ray. You'll need to wait until discusguru comes on and has a look. He will know for sure. Your boys grandmother was one of his females. here she is This is his grandfather his father and his mother (from the top pairing) As for his colouring I suppose you would call him a platinum butterfly? Discusguru
Yeah! I agree with adodge that it's a DDR CT. As for colour probably red platinum butterfly if the outer rim of the finnage is transparent. ron

SamH
. I didn't realise his Grandfather was so amazing! He looks so unreal. Very nice ADodge!
SamH
When I eventually breed him, which female do I pair him with? A. The baby blue platnium cambodian double ray butterfly, lots of eggs, very aggressive. B. The red cambodian platnium, heaps of eggs, not very aggressive. C. Solid red, hardly any eggs, fin damage, gets picked on. Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of the description of the fish shown. Thanks

Ashzbetta
sorry i should of said smooth top line (there is a dip just after her head) is genetic and can be passed down to future offspring
SamH
Oh that. That could just be the angle she's at, perhaps gulping down some air?
SamH
Instead of starting a new thread for my two new fish, I'll just use my old one. If that's okay? :-? So are these Delta or HM. I'm thinking Delta but I'd like a confirmation. Thanks
Guest
Number 1 is a HM and the second is a delta I think.
darkfur
I think the definition of HM is the tail has an angle of 180 degrees or more so that would make them both delta although the top one is superdelta, or HM if it can fan out just a *little* more
twinkles
second - super delta first - looks like he's 1mm short of hm, is that the max his tail goes out to? Grab a few more pics of him flaring and see how they look, its hard to tell when their top/bottom fins overlap the tail too. here - thanks to bettysplendens.com
nycnlo
id go #1 is close to hm, but technically super delta ... with some mirror training etc he will go halfmoon easy.. #2 id say super delta as its close to 180 just got a wee bit to go
SamH
Hardly need mirror training, they flare at the girl and sometimes ea other all the time. Maybe they'll calm down, I've only had them for a day....
nycnlo
haha .. if you isolate them from all other fish.. say block off all walls around the tank and give them 20mins a day of viewing of each other this drastically increases their rays and promotes fin growth this also is how you make fighters flare on demand ie put a mirror up and train them to flare when you want
SamH
But if I leave them looking at ea other, they'll stop flaring?
twinkles
yup, they'll get bored and ignore each other before long. If you seperate them except for 20mins or so at a time they'll flare like made the whole time
SamH
And how would you suggest doing that? So if I let them see ea other and they got bored, and then removed the dividers, they'd be fine?
twinkles
no, they only get bored cause they realise they can't get to each other, and that other space is the other fishes territory. when they're blocked off then see each other they think the other fishy is coming to invade so they do their best to scare them away. i use ice cream carton lids as dividers, just jam them between the containers, don't know what your set up is like for what would fit.
